TOUR COORDINATOR: Cathy Mundy
TOUR:
The La Foret Conference and Retreat Center is built around what was originally the summer home of Alice Bemis Taylor. Most of the historic buildings, which we will tour, were constructed between 1927-1929. Most of the remaining cabins and lodges were constructed from 1948-late 1950’s. There are 18 such buildings nestled in the forest around a large meadow with Pikes Peak looming above. Architecture was a favorite hobby of Alice Bemis Taylor, and she hired architects such as John Gaw Meem and Jules Jacques Benois Benedict to construct the buildings on this 450-acre site in the Black Forest. Some buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places; others are about to be listed or are being researched prior to application.
